Geotag FAQ
- What does it mean to geotag a photo?
- Geotagging means writing GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) into the photo's EXIF metadata. Photo apps, mapping services and operating systems use this data to show where the picture was taken. The visible image is not modified in any way.
- Will the geotag be visible on the photo?
- No. EXIF metadata is invisible — it travels inside the file, not on the picture. If you want a visible location stamp, address or map on the photo itself, use the GPS Photo Stamp tool instead.
- Will my phone show the new location?
- Yes, in most cases. iPhones (Photos app) and Android (Google Photos) read EXIF GPS when importing a photo. Some services strip EXIF on upload for privacy, which also removes the geotag.
